Our Therapeutic Areas

LFB has a public health mission: to provide both healthcare professionals and patients with live-saving medicinal products of major therapeutic interest.

LFB’s therapeutic areas

LFB’s biomedicinal products are dispensed with a hospital prescription and are administered mainly in healthcare institutions.

They are mainly chronic treatments for serious and often rare diseases, but also for emergency care, within hospital intensive care units.

TREATING RARE COAGULATION DISORDERS

In the field of haemostasis, LFB offers therapeutic solutions to correct blood coagulation disorders that are often of genetic origin. Some patients are born with a quantitative or qualitative coagulation factor deficiency. These are always rare diseases that require life-long treatment.

One of the best known diseases in this field is haemophilia, of the types haemophilia A (constitutional deficiency of factor VIII), haemophilia B (constitutional deficiency of factor IX), as well as Von Willebrand disease caused by a deficiency of Von Willebrand factor, which affects women as well as men.
The medicinal products offered by LFB in the field of haemostasis are used as treatment in situations that are sometimes very rare, only affecting a few dozen patients.

RESPONDING TO CRITICAL SITUATIONS WITH EMERGENCY MEDICINAL PRODUCTS

In the field of intensive care, LFB offers medicinal products to treat patients in often critical situations, with serious deficiencies of essential proteins.
This may involve hypovolaemia, severe haemorrhaging, volume expansion, or even thrombosis.
In these emergency situations, healthcare professionals can use LFB’s medicinal products to provide patients with the protein or proteins that are missing or defective.
